New faces on the Board of Governors
We are delighted to welcome the following new governors to the Board with effect from 1 March:
Jan Whitehouse
Jan has been a Director of the Royal Academy of Music since 1995. In her role as a member of the senior management team she has specific responsibilities for corporate governance, strategic planning, finance, investments, risk management, personnel, estates, IT, legal, audit, administration and catering. She is Secretary to the Board of Governors and other committees. She is also a Trustee and Director of two associated charitable trusts. She became a governor of Mid Kent FE college and a member of the college's Audit Committee in January 2007.
Jan joins the Board as an independent member.
Colin Tweedy OBE
Colin has been Chief Executive of Arts & Business (formerly the Association for Business Sponsorship of the Arts, ABSA) since 1983. He is Chairman of CEREC (Comite Europeen pour le Rapprochement de l'Economie et de la Culture). He is a director of the Headlong Theatre (formerly the Oxford Stage Company), the Mariinsky Theatre Trust. He established The Prince of Wales Arts & Kids Foundation as an initiative of Arts & Business and is a trustee of the Foundation. In June 2000 Colin received an OBE for services to business partnerships with the arts in the Queen's Birthday Honours. He became A Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) in the Queen's Birthday Honours June 2003.
Colin joins the Board as an independent member.
James Thorne
James is a member of the Corporate Team at Farrer & Co, a law firm. He has had responsibility for the management and leadership of the Corporate Team for over ten years. He has sat on and chaired a number of internal committees at Farrer & Co, with involvement in management or marketing, or ad hoc committees for a specific project e.g. governance, strategy. James brings professional experience of other higher education bodies to his role as a governor at UCA.
James joins the Board as a co-opted member.
Harry Rich
Harry is currently Chief Executive of Enterprise Insight, the national campaign to unlock the UK's enterprise potential. Prior to that he was Deputy Chief Executive at the Design Council, with a particular focus on engaging businesses, shaping the evidence base demonstrating the impact of design and representing this internationally. He has served as both member and chair on a number of committees and boards in the public and private sectors.
Harry joins the Board as an independent member.
Interview with David Burt, Academic Registrar
David took up his new post as Academic Registrar back in December and immediately began shaping his vision for the newly formed Academic Registry. He is now keen to share this vision with the rest of the university.
