Newsletter Views

Earlier in the month, we spoke to Professor Elaine Thomas, our Rector, about her thoughts on the first issue of the new staff newsletter.

Can a staff newsletter show how we are working towards the mission of the University?

"I think that this newsletter provides an important means of communication across the University, bearing in mind our geographical spread. It demonstrates our successes at all levels and in all areas as we work towards excelling as a university for the arts which fosters creativity through local connections and global aspirations.

Information on international exhibitions and collaborations  shows how we are contributing to our global aspirations, as the creative output of our staff and students gains worldwide exposure. Equally, I see that it will be an important vehicle for showing our local activities and how we contribute to the community.

I'm really looking forward to its evolution and success, and I urge all staff to enjoy it and use it to promote events, activities and successes relating to their own areas."

Can a newsletter contribute to the development of one University-wide community?

"I think that news about staff, covering both their official roles and other aspects of their lives, is a great way to add to a feeling of one community. Keeping people informed about their colleagues, whatever role, department or location they are in, is a positive thing that can bring many benefits.

If everyone keeps Marketing & External Relations informed about what they would most appreciate reading, we could have a truly vibrant newsletter that reflects our staff, students and our activities. In future editions, updates on how our newly created University is progressing will keep everyone fully informed about all that we are achieving together."
